Best Activities to Do in Applecross

Applecross is a riverside suburb surrounded by beautiful nature making it perfect for those who want a relaxing time by the beach or Swan River and those who enjoy thrilling sports activities. If you’re looking for the best things to do in Applecross, here’s three fun activities to add to your itinerary.

Have a Picnic at Heathcote Reserve

Heathcote Reserve is a perfect place for a fun bonding time with the whole family. Located in Applecross, it overlooks the Swan River and offers great views of not only the city, but also bottlenose dolphins as they swim up the Swan and Canning rivers and pursue mullet. Heathcote is also surrounded by beautifully renovated heritage buildings and landscaped gardens.

Heathcote Reserve has a big pirate ship playground making it perfect for kids to climb on, slide, and swing around. Available facilities also include parking sports, restrooms, a water/drinking fountain, several BBQ pits, a restaurant and onsite food kiosk, and of course plenty of grass and benches for picnics and birthday celebrations beside this playground.

Join Exciting Watersport Activities

For thrill seekers out there, Applecross is a great place to try some fun water activities like kitesurfing, kayaking, and parasailing. The area is also strategically surrounded by various water activities providers.

If you fancy kitesurfing or paddle boarding, check out SoulKite or Seabreeze Kitesurf School for their available lessons and services. Lucky Bay, located on the south side of Swan River, is also a great area with shallow waters for kayaking, windsurfing, or even just a relaxing walk at the nearby park or by the shores.

Run, Jog, or Walk Along Scenic Riverside Trails

Applecross offers plenty of trails with great riverside scenes. Applecross Foreshore is a good 6 km long out-and-back trail perfect for a nice run or walk by Swan River. If you fancy a longer route, you can head over to Mount Pleasant neighborhood from Heathcote Reserve and take a 10 km out-and-back run under shaded streets lined with beautiful homes. Melville Water Riverpark Trail also offers a great urban route that features Perth's most distinctive southern shoreline reserves and parks.
